Mobile Phone Accessories – 11 Million Texts Sent per Hour in UK

The all-consuming nature of mobile phones has reared its head once again with the latest revelation regarding mobile text messaging. A recent study conducted by the Mobile Data Association has revealed that roughly 11 million texts are sent in the United Kingdom every hour – all of this despite the impact of the social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

During 2009, an average of 265 million text messages were sent on a daily basis (a total of 96.8 billion annually), with 1.6 million picture messages also shared.

The annual record of sent text messages compares favourably with the previous two years – as 56.9 billion and 78.9 billion messages were sent in 2007 and 2008 respectively. This suggests that the supplies continue to meet the demands of the UK consumer market and that short, concise texting is just as efficient as social media websites.

Mobile Phone Accessories: Universal Phone Charger on the Horizon

It has been mooted for some time now but there finally appears to be significant developments regarding a universal mobile phone charger. The new energy-efficient device could be launched as early as next year according to the International Telecommunication Union.

This week the United Nations body approved plans for the universal charger, set to be a one-size-fits-all mobile phone accessory. It appears to be a crucial moment in improving the environmental efficiency of mobile phone chargers.

The release of an energy-efficient universal phone charger will result in a reduction in the production of greenhouse gases by 13.6 million tonnes on an annual basis, according to GSM Association trade body. A universal device will also significantly cut the number of redundant chargers when users upgrade their phones, currently amounting up to 51,000 tonnes of waste each year.
